TECHNOLOGICAL FAILURES

I grew up in simpler times and I LOVED IT! I watched TV on a picture tube and listened to music on my cassette player. Then, I went out and interacted with others. Nowadays, a lot of our kids are spending all their time on their computers, gadgets, and the net, constantly inundated with TOO MUCH INFORMATION. The result is a youth of today that either: a) THINK THEY KNOW EVERYTHING or b) DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH ALL THIS INFORMATION and are CONFUSED, WITHDRAWN, and SOCIALLY-AWKWARD.

It’s ok for me to spend a lot of time on my computer – I’m 43 years old and already know what growing up and actualizing one’s self is all about. But, for those of you who are still finding your way in the world and want to know who you are and what you really want, I suggest you TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER, GO OUT THERE, and EXPERIENCE LIFE, first hand. Nothing will build your confidence, character, strength, and wisdom more than to actually BE THERE.

I’d like to quote Robin Williams in the film GOOD WILL HUNTING wherein as a teacher, he speaks to Matt Damon, his emotionally-dense, yet hyper-intelligent student: “So if I asked you about art, you’d probably give me the skinny on every art book ever written. Michelangelo, you know a lot about him. Life’s work, political aspirations, him and the pope, sexual orientations, the whole works, right? But I’ll bet you can’t tell me what it smells like in the Sistine Chapel. You’ve never actually stood there and looked up at that beautiful ceiling. If I ask you about women, you’d probably give me a syllabus about your personal favourites. You may have even been laid a few times. But you can’t tell me what it feels like to wake up next to a woman and feel truly happy.”

So, don’t waste your life just being INFORMED and ENTERTAINED. LIVE A REAL LIFE for Christ’s sake. GO OUT THERE NOW!
